Two grant applications were approved by the Buffalo City Council last week, at the request of acting Police Chief Jason Carder.
Carder explains the grants and what they will cover.
Carder said the police department will probably conduct their first compliance checks before Christmas. Carder also told the council he is currently in the process of hiring an Animal Control Officer (ACO), and had received 14 applications as of last Tuesday, the deadline for applying for the position. Testing was expected to begin late last week or early this week, he said.
Officers have been handling animal calls both in the city and county and Carer said three calls in the county were responded to and a bill will be submitted to the county for the calls. The former ACO, Todd Morrison, will begin training at the academy in Douglas to become an police officer.
