Buffalo Council Approves Purchase For Memorial Swim Meet

The Buffalo Pool Board approached the City Council at their last meeting, requesting funding from excess one-percent money to purchase starting blocks for the outdoor pool to accommodate a 2-day swim meet they hope to make an annual event.

Board member Bill Webber explained that the board had hoped to borrow starting blocks from Gillette, but that wasn't feasible, and purchasing them then made the most sense, considering the possibility of the meet becoming an annual event.
The cost of the eight starting blocks, freight, and installation is estimated to be $6,000 according to Webber.

The council discussed how to cover the request, whether a budget amendment, using funds from the pool's operating account, or money from the city's general fund.

Mayor Randy Dyess suggested the two-day swim meet be christened the Annual Kate Holt Memorial Swim Meet, in honor of the former city councilwoman, long-time pool board member and pool supporter.

No date has been set for the swim meet.

Also approved by the council was Angela Webber as concessionaire at the pool for the summer of 2013.
