At their meeting Tuesday evening the Buffalo City Council approved on first reading Ordinance No. 1351 which will adopt the 2012 editions of the International Building Codes.
City Building Inspector Toby Rhoades explained that new codes are updated every three years, but cities and municipalities normally do not adopt new codes every three years as there aren't enough changes to warrant adopting new codes that often.
Buffalo has not adopted new building codes since 2006 and therefor is due to adopt the new standards, he said.
He explained further.
Rhoades will host another meeting for contractors to cover the new building codes on December 17th.
The Ordinance will need two more readings before it is officially adopted by the council.
