Buffalo Council Approves Change Orders For Sports Complex

At their last meeting the Buffalo City Council approved change orders in the amount of $261,874 for O'Dell Construction for the sports fields complex currently under construction at the old Centennial Park.

City Planner Zach Montgomery explains why the change orders were necessary.

Montgomery said the city knew going into the project there would be issues underground on the site such as trash, junk, debris, old stumps, metal, concrete and old cars buried on the site.

Mayor Randy Dyess said 804 loads of trash were removed from the 30-acre site and 804 loads of topsoil were hauled back in.

Additional piping on the site was also necessary according to Montgomery, due to drainage not working as originally designed, adding to the change order amount.

The original bid on the project came in at $3.2 million, but was negotiated between the city and contractor and came in at $2,089,840.

Change Orders 1 through 5 will bring the cost of the project to a current level of $2,351,714.
