The Sheridan City Council held the first of many budget work sessions over the noon hour on Monday. Mayor Dave Kinskey delivered a brief budget message indicating that general revenues for fiscal year 2010-2011 are expected to be down $1.1 million or 8% from last year. The Mayor also stated that unemployment has doubled in the City over the last year and that government like the private sector must do more with less.
City Treasurer Jennifer Reed stated that the general fund will be significantly less this year and that the same holds true for the optional one cent funds.
Reed points out what the biggest hurdle was in balancing this year's budget.
Reed said that personnel costs are about 68% of the City's budget. The projected budget for fiscal year 2010-2011 is $36.3 million.
