On Thursday, July 30, Cody Brothers was found guilty in Johnson County District Court of Family Violence Battery after a jury trial that lasted two days.
According to a media release from the Johnson County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, the battery occurred in January of this year and was Brothers' third domestic violence battery within ten years, which makes this conviction a felony.
Deputy County and Prosecuting Attorney Ryan Wright, during the trial, said “all the evidence clearly shows that the Defendant committed the crime, he even admitted to being guilty to a friend while in jail.” The admission was shown to the jury during the trial.
County and Prosecuting Attorney Ken DeCock added, “domestic violence battery is a serious crime that has traumatic effects not only (for) the victim, but also family and friends of the victim. We hope this sends a clear message that we will aggressively prosecute domestic violence.”
Sentencing for Brothers will be in approximately 60 days.
