BLM Seeks Volunteers to Spot Eagles

The Bureau of Land Management field office in Buffalo is seeking volunteers from the Sheridan area to participate in the Midwinter Bald Eagle Survey. Lesley Elser, public affairs specialist for the BLM, says Saturday, Jan. 12 has been established as the day for this year's statewide eagle count.

Last year, approximately 70 volunteers counted more than 300 eagles throughout the Powder River Basin, and 180 were bald eagles. This national survey helps to identify previously unrecognized winter habitats for these birds of prey.

This year, volunteers from the Sheridan area are encouraged to pre-register by Jan. 4. Any routes left unclaimed will be assigned at a public meeting Jan. 8 at the Fulmer Public Library at 6 p.m. For more information on the project, contact the BLM Buffalo field office at 684-1045.
