The Buffalo High School Marching Band was at the state competition last Saturday in Casper, and were awarded a “Superior” rating in the competition, the fifth year in a row they have achieved that mark. The band had set their goal of improving over last year's marks, which proved a tough challenge.

Band co-director Chad Rose explains how the band did last year.

The six caption awards are drum major; percussion; brass; woodwinds; auxiliary; general effect music, marching and maneuvering.

Buffalo took a General Effect Caption at this year's competition in addition to their Superior rating, Rose said.

Judging was tight this year, as only 24 captions were awarded overall, the lowest number since captions were instituted, Rose said, tied with 2006 when captions were awarded in only four categories.

Although the BHS Band was only awarded the one caption, they were within ten points (out of 700 points) from winning three more captions in drum major, brass and auxiliary.
