Fifteen dogs--including several labs, a French bulldog, a golden retriever, a Yorkshire terrier mix, a couple standard poodles and a Bernese mountain dog, attended a therapy dog screening at Sheridan Manor Sunday. Cel (SEAL) Hope, who is the Director of Sheridan's Dog and Cat Shelter, says she helps conduct these screenings because she sees the importance of having more certified therapy dogs
Cel says screening potential therapy dogs is important to make sure they deal comfortably with strange settings and people. But making sure their owners are ready is alsoimportant
All but one of the 15 dogs passed the initial screening this weekend. Cel say even dogs that don't initially pass, usually just need a little work and can retry next screening. The other 14 will now have a couple of supervised visits at local nursing homes before they become an official member of Therapy Dogs Incorporated.
