Ash Creek Fire Update 7/3/12

*UPDATE* 10:30 a.m. Ash Creek Fire Information Officials confirmed via e-mail fire activity remains the same. Current weather conditions are perpetuating aggressive fire conditions in the Ash Creek area.

The Northern Rockies Incident Management Team Reports the Ash Creek Fire is now 55% contained, and has devoured more than 186,000 acres.

The fire made a major run yesterday evening and into then night because high winds produced by a passing cold front pushed the fire seven miles to the east and eight miles to the south in the course of eight hours. The fire jumped highway 212 yesterday and is now a mile south of the North Fork of Threemile Creek, a mile west of Sonette Road. To the north, the fire is up to Elk Ridge, which is one mile south of Stacey School.

Highway 212 between Ashland and Broadus remains closed.

The majority of suppression activities are focused on the east, northeast and southeast portions of the fire. Structure protection operations were ongoing throughout the night.

Another fire nearby, the Coal Seam Fire, is 95 percent contained and covers 527 acres.
