A 37-year-old Sheridan man has been arrested for allegedly setting a vehicle on fire last Thursday night. Shane Magestro made his initial appearance in Sheridan County Circuit Court yesterday. Magestro has been charged with arson and felony property distruction.
On June 25th, Sheridan Police and Fire-Rescue departments responded to a vehicle fire on Kooi Street a little after 10 PM. Police found that one Toyota pickup was completely engulfed in flame and several nearby vehicles had one or more flat tires. Firefighters told police that the fire would not have caused flat tires in the adjacent vehicles.
Witnesses at the scene gave police a description of Magestro’s vehicle. His vehicle was located at the State of Wyoming Information Center on East 5th Street. Police later arrested Magestro at his home. Witnesses reported that Magestro had allegedly said the owner of the damaged vehicles owed him money.
Magestro could face a total of 15 years in prison and a $15,000 fine, if convicted. Judge John Sampson set a $10,000 cash only bond and Magestro will make his next appearance in Circuit Court for a preliminary hearing where he could be bound over to the 4th Judicial District Court for trial.
