The arraignment of 28-year-old Sheridan resident Shawn Osborne on 1st Degree Murder charges has been delayed due to a motion filed by his Attorney Robert Jones. Jones requested that a competency evaluation be performed on his client. During interviews with his client, Jones stated that Osborne appeared to be "too happy go lucky" and doesn't seem to have the mental capacity to fully understand the seriousness of the charges brought against him.
4th Judicial District Court Judge John Fenn granted the request and ordered that a competency evaluation be performed on Osborne by an examiner from the Wyoming State Hospital. Prosecuting Attorney Matt Redle requested that the evaluation be performed at the Sheridan County Detention Center where Osborne is being held. Judge Fenn granted the request and said that they'll await the findings from the evaluation before scheduling an arraignment date.
Osborne is charged with 1st Degree Murder for allegedly killing 42-year-old Gerald Bloom on January 15th 2010.
