Arraignment Delayed For Sheridan Man Accused Of Murder

The arraignment of 28-year-old Sheridan resident Shawn Osborne on 1st Degree Murder charges has been delayed due to a motion filed by his Attorney Robert Jones. Jones requested that a competency evaluation be performed on his client. During interviews with his client, Jones stated that Osborne appeared to be "too happy go lucky" and doesn't seem to have the mental capacity to fully understand the seriousness of the charges brought against him.

4th Judicial District Court Judge John Fenn granted the request and ordered that a competency evaluation be performed on Osborne by an examiner from the Wyoming State Hospital. Prosecuting Attorney Matt Redle requested that the evaluation be performed at the Sheridan County Detention Center where Osborne is being held. Judge Fenn granted the request and said that they'll await the findings from the evaluation before scheduling an arraignment date.

Osborne is charged with 1st Degree Murder for allegedly killing 42-year-old Gerald Bloom on January 15th 2010.

How can anyone stick up for

How can anyone stick up for Shawn? He was the one who made the choice to kill. He deserves the maximum penalty under the law! Now he's playing games with the court with his supposed mental issues. I am sorry for his family but they are not the victim here. I think he is confusing mental illness with stupidity. Why not admit what he did and accept his punishment like a man? Why not tell the truth that he did something really really really really stupid!!!!! He has way more rights than Gerald did 1-15-2010! When the evidence comes out people will see what kind of person Shawn really is. Then, I'll bet nobody will want to say they are his friends.

Wow how is it possible that

Wow how is it possible that everyone already found Osborne guilty! I know that this is SHERIDAN WYOMING and all but whatever happened to innocent til proven guilty! I guess ignorance really is bliss! Crime happens in every city regardless of how large or small it may be! Welcome to the real world people!

Innocent?

I suppose you think this character is innocent even though there were eye witnesses and he even admitted it. You must be in a state of "bliss" after reading your sentence using the word "ignorance"!

????

Is it just a coincident that we haven't seen a comment from RJones on this article?

Maybe he just hasn't found a

Maybe he just hasn't found a way to blame this on Kinskey yet.

Osborne

As a victim of a crime myself- and VERY competent police work done by our local officers- DON'T count on Matt Redle for anything-

Happy Go Lucky

This delay is just indefensible defensive law by rote.
The reports, sketchy as they seem, pretty much size Osbourne as someone who is a functioning (barely) member of society at large. Whether his cognitive condition is socially responsible doesn't matter, if he's guilty of the crime. It seems that he killed in a premeditated manner. As soon as he said "Watch this.", his goose is cooked legally.
Redle has a slam dunk on this unless he REALLY screws this up.

The really scary part is...

The description I've read really seems like the other guy actually did just that, he really watched it all unfold and did nothing to stop it? This is just an awful, awful mess.

Happy go Lucky!

I'd be whistling Dixie too if I had my life planned out for me! Three meals a day, free room and board, TV, computers, health care, state of the art education better than most skools!Who wouldn't be a happy camper!

WHERE IS ?

Where is Gerald's family and why arent the pressing charges agaist Dennis , Dee and David ?

It's nobody's business where

It's nobody's business where his family is!

It's not their choice.

It's not their choice. That's not how it works. And this statement seems to be in a blaming tone.

IT DOES NOT MATTER WHERE

IT DOES NOT MATTER WHERE GERALDS FAMILY IS THEY ARE TRYIN TO DEAL WITH THE FACT THAT THEY LOST A LOVED FAMILY MEMBER SO EVERYBODY JUST LEAVE HIS FAMILY OUT OF THESE COMMENTS HAVE RESPECT FOR THE FAMILY. I MET THAT FAMILY AND THEY ARE WONDERFUL PEOPLE SO BACK OFF OF THEM. NONE OF YOU HAVE ANY RIGHT TO JUDGE OR RUN YOUR MOUTHS ABOUT GERALD OR EVEN SHAWN. I AM NOT TRYIN TO JUSTIFY WHAT SHAWN DID OR MAKE UP EXCUSES FOR HIM BUT LET THE LEGAL SYSTEM DEAL WITH SHAWN. YOU ALL WANT TO JUDGE AND SAY HOW BAD OF PEOPLE THESE TWO MEN ARE AND YOU ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE. I AM SHOCKED AT BY WHATS HAPPENED FOR THE SIMPLE FACT IS I NEW THEM BOTH VERY WELL AND THEY WERE WONDERFUL GUYS THEY BOTH TREATED ME AND MY FAMILY WONDERFUL SO JUST SHUT YOUR MOUTHS FOR ONCE

WAS NOT

Was not blaming geralds family my heart goes out to them i did not know that they couldnt press chargesagaist the others

Some of his family live here

Some of his family live here and some in Colorado. But like the previous post says, it really isn't up to them to press charges. And even if they could, it seems as if he has escaped other charges already in the past. I feel for his family and hope that they have a good support system. Hopefully Dennis, Dee, and everyone else involved will leave.

They live in Colorado, and

They live in Colorado, and it isn't up to them to press charges.

Insane or not

Of course he is insane! Anyone that murders, rapes, or does anything else to harm the population is insane. So what, we can't have them running the streets either way. If someone commits such a violent crime, they should be dealt with equally, and capital punishment should be used! "A rose by any other name is still a rose"!

hang him

why does this guy even get a trial. It was a witnessed murder and he stated he wanted to do it again. I think he is perfectly compitent to do whatever he wants. It is time for Matt Redle to make a stand on major crime in this town. I say Osborn should get the death penalty for his crime. Time to bring back capital punishment. We need to make people fear getting into trouble, and commiting crimes.

ur a heartless jerk for

ur a heartless jerk for saying jus hang him he was an is a friend of mine and yes he deserves to pay the price but if it was someone you knew think how u would feel u piece of crap

Capital punishment has been

Capital punishment has been back for a while and doesn't seem to be much of a deterrent.

dear hang him

oh, how easy it is for you to judge. May you or your family never be involved in such a situation.

It is pretty cut and dry!

It is pretty cut and dry! This man killed someone. Close your eyes and imagine that you are in Mr. Blooms shoes in the wee hours of Jan. 15. Do you still think this person should receive anything other than the death penalty (he will)? The man is a monster. I am sure he wasn't always a monster but he is now.

Actually, I think it would

Actually, I think it would be great if we reverted to a system of dictatorship and totalitarianism..maybe it is clear cut and maybe he does deserve harsh punishment, but we have our current system in place for a reason. Have you ever read a history book?

Capital Punishment

I'm all for Capital Punishment. In fact, I'd like to see it go public on the Courthouse lawn again. I also love our system of Due Process, which let's all accused have the right to a defense before judgment is passed. Should this man be found guilty by a jury of his peers, I sincerely hope that justice will be served to the fullest extent of the law.

Hello Becky :) I hope

Hello Becky :) I hope someday a friend or family member of yours makes a horrible mistake so that you can rally for capital punishment. Its easy to sit back and say hang someone on the courthouse lawn when it doesn't directly affect you. Its easy to say a lot of things when it doesn't directly affect you.
In my book if your saying you want to watch someone die on the courthouse lawn your not a whole lot different than the accused who wanted to watch someone die. Same thing just your reasoning is a little different.

Horrible mistake?

Boy that sure would be a horrible mistake.

"hey people look what i did, I done got drunk and high and then I choked out this guy I was living with, then I stabbed him in the throat several times"

"I think I made a horrible mistake and I want to do it again" "oh yeah, the guy owed me $20.00"

Give me a freaking break. If anybody in my family did this to another human, I would put them in the ground myself. Maybe if hangings were public there would be less crime. I know it would deter myself.

Your hope is very misguided. Shouldnt we all hope for the best of others and ourselves? instead of hoping someone makes a terrible mistake just to prove a point? I think I read a different book.
