The Arch Coal Foundation honored 13 Wyoming Teachers Tuesday with Golden Apple Award Certificates. Two of the 13 awarded were from Sheridan County, as Tongue River Middle School Teacher Ann Powers and Heidi Richins from Sheridan High School were awarded for their contributions to the success of their students.
The Golden Apple Awards are part of the Arch Coal Foundation's Teacher Achievement Awards program, which honored 10 outstanding Wyoming teachers earlier this month. Golden Apple Award recipients earned finalist status in the program, distinguishing them as the top tier of the 2013 nominees along with those recognized as Teacher Achievement Award recipients.
Educators are nominated for the awards by members of the public and selected by a panel of previous award winners. This is the 13th year that Teacher Achievement Awards have been presented in Wyoming. The awards are underwritten by the Arch Coal Foundation in partnership with the Wyoming Department of Education, the Wyoming Education Association, the Wyoming Library Community, Taco John's and Loaf 'N Jug stores.
