In early September, the Prevention Management Organization of Wyoming will be holding a free two-day workshop in Sheridan called Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training. Community prevention specialist for Sheridan County, Thom Gabrukiewicz, explains.
He says this is a great opportunity for people from all walks of life, in particular those who need continuing education or training hours for certain professions, but the class is entirely open to the public.
The course will be taught by Buffalo suicide prevention professional Bill Hawley and Newcastle community prevention professional Kristi Lipp, and it will help the trainee not just recognize the signs that someone's in crisis - but do something to help.
The class takes place on September 9 and 10, Monday and Tuesday, at the Wyoming Girls School in Sheridan. Class size is limited and the registration deadline is by September 4. To register for the free training, call Gabrukiewicz at 655-8263.
