Audiences will be transported to the 1400's this week, as nearly 50 Sheridan High School drama and music students bring to the stage "Once Upon a Mattress." Sheridan Media's Mary Jo Johnson has more.
This is the third time Sheridan High School has produced this delightful twist on the well-known fairy tale "The Princess & The Pea", and this time around, Senior Ashley Daniels plays Princess Winifred, whose sleep habits are put to the test in order to marry her prince. She describes her character.
Challenging her acting is the fact that Ashley is afraid of heights, which doesn't necessarily bode well for her when Fred tries to sleep on a stack of 20 mattresses. That set piece is just a part of what promises to be a feast for the eyes. Jordan Marzilli-Quintana, who plays the narrating minstrel, describes the set, designed by Leon Schatz and director Marva Craft.
And it's also a multi-layered plot, says Carsten Wills, who plays the Court Jester.
Tickets for "Once Upon a Mattress" can be purchased in advance for $7 at the Sheridan High School front office, or at the door for $8.
