In a media release issued by the Office of the Sheridan County and Prosecuting Attorney, it is noted that Sheridan County was contacted several months ago by a representative of the trust established by the former Sheridan County Clerk, Audrey Koltiska. Sheridan County Attorney Matt Redle.
Redle said that upon being informed of this, the trust representative nevertheless requested that the claim be filed. Redle indicated that the claim was filed in order to protect the interests of Sheridan County.
Redle also stated that since the investigation has to do with public funds, Sheridan County and its representatives intend to avoid any action that may jeopardize those public funds unnecessarily, including making any inappropriate comments prematurely. Redle did say that at the appropriate time, the County will make a full disclosure and accounting as the evidence will permit.
In March of 2010, the Department of Criminal Investigation along with the Wyoming Department of Audit began an investigation into misappropriation of public funds at the Sheridan County Clerk's Office. Several weeks later on March 25th, Koltiska was interviewed by investigators and subsequently released. She was found dead later that day due to a self inflicted gunshot wound.
