All four of the Sheridan County Public Libraries will be offering a “Food For Fines” Amnesty Week, beginning Sunday, December 8th and running through Saturday, December 14th. Library users who have outstanding fines, or those with long overdue items can return their materials on their accounts and have the amount they owe reduced if they bring in a food item.
All of the food collected will go to the local food banks in Sheridan and Story. Fulmer Library Director Cameron Duff says it's all about giving back to the community while offering library users a productive way to clear their accounts.
Duff said that the “Food For Fines” program will not count towards fees that have been incurred from lost or damaged items. He added that they will be accepting most non-perishable food items, however, the libraries will not be able to accept glass jars, dented cans, homemade items or any food that has passed its expiration date.
