Americans Elect Party Gains Ballot Access

Wyoming Secretary of State Max Maxfield announced Monday that a new political party will be added to the 2012 General Election ballot. State Election Director Peggy Nighswonger explains.

3,740 signatures of registered voters are required under state statute to gain ballot access as a provisional party. Nighswonger said that the Libertarian Party, considered a Minor Party, and the new Provisional Party, the Americans Elect, will only appear on the General Election ballot since they nominate their candidates by convention, not at a Primary Election. She also added that new parties seeking to gain ballot access for the 2012 General Election have until June 1st to submit petitions to the Secretary of State's Office.
