Monday was Flag Day in the United States, and a young veteran who recently returned to Sheridan contacted Sheridan Media regarding proper flag etiquette. Sheridan Media's Mary Jo Johnson has the story.
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class, Anthony Fairbanks, just returned from serving in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He now is with the Naval Reserve, and works nights at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Fairbanks is a proud military member who is equally proud of so many Sheridan residents flying the American flag. However, he tells us.
Fairbanks says that any time a flag is hung on a pole, it should be taken down at dusk, unless it is lit throughout the night. And there are very strict rules on hanging a flag at half-staff.
He adds that the President or Governor will dictate how long a flag may fly at half-staff.
