A Preliminary Hearing that was scheduled for 57-year-old Paul Brookhouse Tuesday afternoon in Sheridan County Circuit Court was postponed due to Brookhouse waiving his right to a speeding hearing. Brookhouse is charged with Second Degree Murder for allegedly killing 62-year-old James Lee Drake.

The incident occurred at 24 Dee Drive in Sheridan County the night of June 12. According to charging documents, when deputies arrived on scene, they found Brookhouse standing at the end of the driveway with his left arm in a sling, and his clothes covered in what appeared to be blood.

After deputies entered the residence, they found Drake face down in the basement, with two gunshot wounds to his side, and one to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies searched the area and found a .22 caliber revolver with what appeared to be blood on it, and a Ruger revolver of undetermined caliber.

A date for the rescheduled preliminary hearing is expected to be set within the next week. The crime of Second Degree Murder is punishable by 20 years to life in prison.
