Accident Victim Identified

The victim of a single-haul truck accident at Spring Creek Coal Mine has been identified as Stewart Orcutt, 58, of Sheridan.

Although the family was notified earlier in the day, the identity of the victim was withheld from news media until completion of an autopsy earlier this afternoon.

The accident happened about 7 o'clock Monday evening. The deputy coroner said an investigation is ongoing, but coal company officials said no other people were involved, and no other injuries were reported. Company officials said Tuesday morning that federal mine safety officials were on the scene. The accident remained under investigation Tuesday afternoon.

Cloud Peak CEO and President Colin Marshall extended his sympathy to the family, friends and co-workers of the deceased.

Spring Creek employs about 280 people and produced more than 17 million tons of coal in 2013. The Spring Creek Mine is 35 miles from the Wyoming border.

The fatality is the second this month at a Powder River Basin coal mine.
