The Town of Dayton held their annual Dayton Days Celebration over the weekend. One new addition to the parade was the brand new Dayton Volunteer Fire Department fire engine. Dayton Fire Chief Charlie Linhart says that the old fire engine may have had only 10,000 miles on it but it was more than 25 years old.
The Town Council was nearly $20,000 short of the almost quarter million dollars necessary to purchase the truck. The Fire Department dug into their memorial fund to come up with the difference.
The truck arrived just in time to make its appearance at Dayton Days. The Town also made several other improvements for this year’s event, including finishing the new band shell in Scott Park. The band shell will also serve as a theater for Dayton’s movies in the park every other week this summer.
