Law enforcement officials with the Sheridan Police Department and the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office held the 2nd Annual Prescription Drug Take-Back Day event at Walgreen's Saturday.
Part of a national effort by the Drug Enforcement Agency, or DEA – Buffalo law enforcement conducted a similar event as well – Sheridan took part last September, bringing in the highest percentage of the 662.2 pounds of pills collected around the Cowboy State.
Sheridan's program coordinator, Steve Johnson, is the Evidence Technician with the SPD. Compared to the Take Back Day last September, he tells us.
However, he says, even though the weather was a contributing factor in the April 30th results, the lower numbers are actually because of a more a positive reason.
Drop boxes can be found in both the lobbies of the Sheridan Police Department and the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office, thanks to a donation from ASAP, the Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention.
Johnson says that they will hold another Prescription Drug Take Back Day this September.
