The Wyoming Department of Transportation will begin the reconstruction of North Main Street this spring. The 3rd and 4th floors of the Sheridan County Courthouse will undergo renovation over the next few months. And the Sheridan County Airport will get a new runway next summer. The Sheridan County Commissioners approved nearly $5 Million in grant requests for the airport construction at their meeting on Tuesday. The County will take out a $500,000 loan for a water main project on airport property, as well. Commissioner Bob Rolston says the loan is necessary to get the project done before the rest of the airport work.
Most of the funding for the rest of the Airport projects will come in the form of State and Federal grants. There may be a disruption in air service when the runway construction reaches the intersection of the airport’s two runways. Any flight delays should be kept to a minimum as much of the work will take place at night. The project will begin this summer and is expected to be complete by August 1st.
The County Commissioners also approved the contracts with O’Dell Construction and Collins Communications for the courthouse renovation project. That work will cost nearly $1 Million and the work has already begun. The project will affect the 4th Judicial District courtroom and court proceedings will be held in the commissioners’ meeting room while the courtroom is inaccessible. County commissioners will hold their meetings at Sheridan College for the next several months to avoid conflicts with the court.
