More than 100 area children are signed up for 'Give Kids a Smile Day' on Friday. Sheridan College Dental Hygiene students and Sheridan-area dentists will provide free dental check-ups at the college.
Kids ages four to 13-years-old will receive free exams, x-rays and cleanings. Sheridan-area dentists work with the college students, and this is the third year the two groups have worked together to make the event possible in Sheridan.
“It's an opportunity to serve the community,” Judy Riechart, Dental Hygiene Clinician at Sheridan College, said. “It's good for the students to get an idea of the dental community that's out there and see what the need is.”
The event takes place from 8 am to 2:30 pm.
Riechart said that they are almost booked full but may be able to fit in a few more appointments. Call the college at 674-6446 ext. 3402 to schedule an appointment.
“Give Kids a Smile Day“ was started by the American Dental Association in an effort to "enhance the oral health of large numbers of needy children”, according to ADA's website. Nearly 300,000 children are expected to receive the free services this year as a result of participating volunteers and dental professionals at 970 events nationwide.
