The 2011 Sheridan High School Spring musical is fast approaching, and this year, children of all ages – after all, who wants to grow up? -- will enjoy the classic tale “Peter Pan.”

Traditionally played by a woman – Mary Martin and Olympic Gold-Medal winning gymnast Cathy Rigby each starred in the role on Broadway – SHS Senior Sadie Clarendon has chopped off her long blond tresses to take on Peter.

Sharing the Peter Pan role with Sadie is Hannah Buckingham, a Junior. When not flying around as Peter, the girls play pirates on Captain Hook's ship.

Also playing a double role is Senior Mona Tescher, who plays Tinker Bell. Freshman Mariah Oleson is the other Tink. Mona describes a couple of challenges to playing the well-known spunky fairy.

Each girl plays one of the generic fairies when not donning Tinker Bell's wings.

The role of Wendy is double cast as well, with Juniors Brekken Baker and Annie Smidt playing the girl on the brink of womanhood. They are Indian maidens in Neverland when not joining Peter, their little brothers and the Lost Boys in battle against Hook and his crew.

Directed by Marva Craft, with Musical Direction by DeeDee Johnson, and featuring a cast of fifty, “Peter Pan” runs for five performances this year. Opening night is Thursday, February 24th. Evening shows are at 7:30 Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and matinées will run at 1 pm on Saturday, February 26th and 2 pm on Sunday, February 27th.

Tickets are on sale at the Sheridan High School Office and are $7 in advance, or $8 at the door.
