Senate File 16, known as the “Butterfly Bill,” passed through the Senate 30-0 in its final reading on Monday. The bill was started a year ago by a Big Horn third grade class when Tanner Warder found out that Wyoming didn't have a state insect. He decided to ask the Legislature to make Sheridan's Green Hairstreak Butterfly the State Butterfly through this bill. And since last year was a budget session, Tanner and classmate Lydia Mayer took the bill to the State Legislature this year. They were in Cheyenne on Thursday to introduce the bill, and they tell us about that experience. This bill is sponsored by Senator Bruce Burns and Representative Rosie Berger. Big Horn teacher Marcia McChesney has been involved with this project along with fellow teacher Laurie Graves. McChesney is excited about how involved these kids have become with this bill. If the bill passes through the House, McChesney says they will probably have some sort of celebration for the kids for all the work they've put into this bill.
