Jerry W. Phillips, age 62, of Sheridan, WY died Saturday, February 21, 2009, in the VA Medical Center, Denver, CO.
Jerry was born November 16, 1946, in Lusk, WY to E.E. & Joan (Rayle) Phillips.
The family moved to Greybull, WY where Jerry grew up and graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Navy. Jerry married Deanna Werbelow on February 4, 1967 in Emblem, WY. He worked the oil fields as a driller near Cody, WY. Jerry moved to Missouri and worked for a sheet metal company. He returned to Cody in 1976. He then went to Havre, MT where he graduated from the welding program at Northern Montana College. He was divorced in 1978. Jerry returned to Wyoming and worked for Larry’s Inc., a construction company, and built a new bridge over the Big Horn River near Greybull. He moved to Sheridan in 1989 and worked for Wisemann’s and Pelesky Construction until he was injured in 1991. Jerry enjoyed pitching horseshoes and was a state champion. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting and riding motorcycles. Jerry loved his dog “Molly”.
Jerry is survived by his son Lance and wife April of Sheridan; sister Jo Lynn Sommerville and husband Butch of Powell, WY; grandchildren Courtney, Elijah and Ayden; nephew Billy Sommerville and niece Lisa Howard.
A gathering of family and friends will be 1:00pm until 4:00pm on Saturday (Apr. 7th) at the Elks Lodge #520 from the Sheridan Elks Lodge. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
