As the cold front moved east Friday evening, just after a serious rain shower between Big Horn and Red Barn Ranch towards Little Goose Canyon, the skies cleared, the sun appeared, the smoke disappeared and the beauty along the Bighorns glowed in the evening sun.

The East Sarpy Fire near Hardin, MT continues to spread as high winds and hot dry weather conditions fuel the blaze. The smoke in and around Sheridan the last couple of days is a result of this fire. (Photo Courtesy of the Bureau of Indian Affairs)

The common phrase "once in a Blue Moon" is used colloquially to mean "a rare event." This August is one of those rare occasions in which there are two full moons within the same calendar month - something that happens about once every three years. The two full moons this August occur at exactly 9:28 pm MDT on August 1st and again at 7:58 pm MDT on August 31st.
