Eight year-old Thomas Sorensen wins the 2011 Pocket Pet Show Grand Champion Rosette Award in the Rodent competition with his seven month-old guinea pig, Cloe, Tuesday afternoon at the Sheridan County Fair.
Judge Kim Ferguson has just handed Payton Gibson the Grand Championship Rosette for having the Champion Yearling In Hand, her horse Soul Sister. Payton showed the judge just how maneuverable Soul Sister could be as she traversed the obstacle course and walked away with the coveted prize.
Each Sheridan WYO Rodeo last month started with the World Championship Indian Relay Race, races that often involve "wrecks" like the jockey, Ian White from the Hoop Dancers Team from Wyola, MT, going down in the second heat of of the first night of rodeo action.
Saturday was Cat day at the Sheridan County Fair and Betty Ann Jerney took home top honors for her showing of Wiley Kat who she rewarded with a kiss after being presented the award winning plaque. The afternoon started with a written test, measuring of tails & whiskers, weighting and documentation before judge Brenda Mckenzie took on the daunting task of picking winners.
Saturday afternoon at the Sheridan County Fair the miniature horses jumped into action and when the Junior - Miniature Jumping - was over Harley Johnson with her horse Gizmo and Dane Hansen with his horse Biscuit each took home a Champion Rosette. The Sheridan Cowgirl's Association held their next to last evening rodeo of the season at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds on Thursday. Coming out on top in barrel racing were Kennedy Myers in Pee Wee Barrels with a time of 20.41, Ellie Bard led in Junior Barrels with an 18.51 run and in Senior Barrels it was Makenna Balkenbush also with an 18.51.
Much has been accomplished at the Vacutech Building location in the nine months since the October 28, 2010 groundbreaking. Last week concrete was poured inside the structure. The south side and west end pour started at midnight on Wednesday and ran for about 12-hours.
The Basque community held a great festival in Buffalo, Wyoming over the weekend. The parade and festival were a showcase of the culture and traditions, including many sheepwagons, dancing, music, arts and crafts, and food and wine.
