The bulk of Tuesday's Sheridan County Commission meeting revolved around a request for a conditional use permit from Dennis and Shirley Cathey to operate a portable sawmill on their property at 498 Wildcat Road. The County Planning and Zoning Commission denied the request at their June 7th meeting.

Wildfires are now burning on about 6,000 acres in southwestern South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming. The Highlands Fire has scorched about 400 acres near Newcastle is 60 percent contained. It has destroyed five structures and damaged two others.

Wyoming Governor, Matt Mead, visited the Arapaho fire in the south-central portion of the state and praised Wyoming's wildfire fighters, who have been working a lot of overtime this season.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will offer leftover licenses for elk, deer and antelope to the public.
