Hot and dry conditions continue to feed wildfires throughout Wyoming and Montana. Here's a breakdown of recent fire activity in Wyoming and southeastern Montana.

Twelve new Americans were recognized during a naturalization ceremony at the Fourth Judicial District courtroom yesterday. Each applicant went through an extensive process that included interviews, background checks and academic testing.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Buffalo Field Office recently announced the availability of a plan of operations for the proposed North Fork bentonite mining project northwest of Kaycee.

The Big Horn Fireworks Show is geared up to go off tonight after sunset. The Ucross show has been canceled due to dry conditions, so this will be the only show for miles around Sheridan.

Crews from the Ranchester Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire in northern Sheridan County at approximately 5:30 pm Tuesday. The fire is located on Ash Creek Road near the Youngs Creek Mine 13 miles north of Sheridan.

The bulk of Tuesday's Sheridan County Commission meeting revolved around a request for a conditional use permit from Dennis and Shirley Cathey to operate a portable sawmill on their property at 498 Wildcat Road. The County Planning and Zoning Commission denied the request at their June 7th meeting.

Wildfires are now burning on about 6,000 acres in southwestern South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming. The Highlands Fire has scorched about 400 acres near Newcastle is 60 percent contained. It has destroyed five structures and damaged two others.
