UPDATE- The Gilead Fire Incident Management Team confirmed that the fire has grown to 5,632 acres and is still sitting at 5% containment.

Not in my backyard was an expression that was used frequently during Thursday night's Sheridan County Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.

Middle school students of Sheridan County School District One will have some new hi-tech gadgets to aid in the learning process this year, as the School District has kicked off an iPad initiative for the year. District One Superintendent Marty Kobza.

The Gilead Fire burning burning 10 miles northwest of Buffalo and 8 miles southwest of Story is now at 4,430 acres as of Thursday night. The fire is also estimated to be 5% contained. Heavy smoke at times Thursday gave the impression that the fire had grown significantly.

University of Wyoming President Tom Buchanan announced Thursday that he will retire at the end of summer 2013. Buchanan made the announcement during his “State of the University Speech”.

The Sheridan Heritage Center Board of Trustees has announced that the Sheridan Inn and 1893 Grille and Spirits will cease operations effective October 1st.

The Gilead Fire Incident Management Team will host two meetings this weekend to update the public on the Gilead Fire which is located approximately 8 miles southwest of Story. Interested individuals are welcome to attend either meeting.

The fall black bear seasons for hunt areas 1 and 2 in the Bighorn black bear management unit are closed. The closed areas are located in the northern Bighorn Mountains.
