Effective at 12:01am Friday morning, the Bighorn National Forest will be implementing stage 1 fire restrictions. These regulations are intended to prevent human caused fires during a time when the forest has a fire danger of very high as a result of the hot, dry weather in recent weeks.

Over the weekend, several young FFA leaders from Sheridan and Buffalo reached new heights in the Bighorn Mountains. Officers camped out at YMCA of the Bighorns Camp Roberts and spent time around Tie Hack Reservoir for a weekend dedicated to growth, goals, and new ideas.

A fire about 10 miles east of Tensleep has closed a portion of U.S. Highway 16. The closed portion begins West of Buffalo and ends in Tensleep. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

At Monday night’s Sheridan City Council Meeting, the council passed a Memorandum of Understanding with the North Eastern Wyoming Growth Alliance.

The 8th Annual Rope for Knowledge Scholarship Roping will be held on Saturday, August 20 at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Buffalo, WY.

Monday afternoon a fire was reported at the Kaycee Landfill. Once the fire was started it spread quickly due to the winds.

Monday evening, Bighorn National Forest and Johnson County Firefighters responded to a lightning caused wildfire off U.S. Highway 16 near Circle Park.

Johnson County commissioners expect to spend $14.9 million this year to operate the county.
