Bison Shut Out Warriors 21-0 in Opener

The Buffalo Bison football team traveled to Worland Friday night to take on The Warriors in their opening game of the 2011 campaign.
The Bison got two rushing touchdowns from Dylan Marton and a third on a pass from quarterback Colin Rodriguez to Kalob Rodriguez.
The Bison offense took some time to gel but the defense seemed to be ready to go from the opening kick. After a scoreless first quarter, the offense finally got rolling in the second quarter when Marton scored on a five-yard run and kicker Wyatt Witty added the PAT to give Buffalo a 7-0 lead.

WEEK ONE FOOTBALL RESULTS

BRONC FOOTBALL - The Bronc football team dropped a tough hard fought game at Natrona county Friday night.

It was a great defensive battle most of the night with Natrona breaking through for two touchdowns in the 4th quarter to pull away and beat the broncs 20-6, Broncs Head coach Don Julian.

The game changer may have come late in the first half with Natrona up 3-0 the NC defense stopped the Broncs twice at the one yard line in the closing seconds of the half to keep the Broncs from taking the lead.

Christensen Says Wyoming has More Playmakers

LARAMIE - Wyoming coach Dave Christensen is expecting more excitement from his team this season despite starting a true freshman quarterback.

Christensen says the Cowboys have more playmakers than they've had over the past two seasons.

Freshman Brett Smith, of Salem, Ore., will lead the offense after winning the starting quarterback job during training camp.

Smith is only the third true freshman since 1974 to start at quarterback for the Cowboys. He is one of nine true freshmen who are expected to see playing time on offense, defense and special teams.

BRONC FOOTBALL AT NATRONA COUNTY / RAMS OPEN TODAY

BRONC FOOTBALL - The Bronc football team will play at Natrona county tonight.

The Bronc defense will get a big test tonight that was one area Head coach Don Julian was pleased with in the victory over Cheyenne Central.

The Offensive line had some question marks coming into the season but Julian says the players have done a good job of getting themselves ready for the season.

As for tonight's opponent the Broncs know what to expect when they line up with Mustangs.

Bison Sports Weekend Preview

The Buffalo High School sports teams will all be in action.
The Bison football team will open their season at Worland tonight with kickoff set at 6pm. The JV team will play at home Saturday against Glenrock.
The girls' swim team was at Gillette Thursday to take on Gillette and Newcastle.
The girls' varsity volleyball team will be at the Gillette Invite today and Saturday. The freshman and JV girls played Clearmont on Thursday.
The Bison golf team is at the Worland Invite. Round One was Thursday and they'll wrap up the tournament today.

LOCAL FOOTBALL PREVIEW

FOOTBALL - The Bronc football team will play at Natrona county tomorrow night and the Big Horn rams play their regular season opener tomorrow afternoon at home.

The Rams lost their zero week exhibition game at Thermopolis last Friday Head coach Bert Dow says the Rams showed their age in the 21-6 loss.

Several players from Tongue River high school have joined the Rams club this year after their season was called off two weeks ago and Dow says they are slowly getting up to speed with their new teammates and coaches.

SHS TENNIS / VOLLEYBALL

BRONC / LADY BRONC TENNIS - The Bronc and Lady Bronc tennis teams split with Natrona county yesterday.

NC beat the Lady Broncs 3-2 while the Broncs finished the day winning 4 of the 5 matches.

The Lady Broncs played strong but fell behind early in their matches and really had to work hard to scratch out two victories Head coach Bob Faurot.

Bison Swimmers Host Meet, Perform Well

The Lady Bison swim team hosted their Buffalo Pentathlon last Friday, with teams from Newcastle, Worland, Douglas as well as Buffalo at the meet.
A number of individual Bison had great performances.
In the 100 butterfly, Buffalo's Hannah Chapin took second, being beaten by less than a second by Carolyn Kennedy of Worland.
Buffalo's Caley Stafford took fourth and Misty Ballek took fifth.
