Broncos hoping week off doesn't stop momentum

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - More than 15 years later, the words "Jacksonville Jaguars" still hit like a cold splash of water around Denver, especially during playoff time.

And if you want to bring back bad memories for Peyton Manning or any of his former teammates, ask them about what happened against Pittsburgh in the 2005 playoffs.

In both instances, the Broncos and Manning roared into the AFC playoffs with top seeding and a week of rest after a bye.

In both instances, the Broncos and Manning were unceremoniously dumped by a team that came into the game as a touchdown-plus underdog.

BRONCOS READY FOR REMATCH WITH THE RAVENS

DENVER (AP) - Peyton Manning will have to wait until next season to face the Indianapolis Colts.

His old team lost 24-9 at Baltimore in the AFC wild-card game Sunday. So the Ravens (11-6) will visit Denver next weekend to face the Broncos (13-3), the AFC's top seed.

Had the Colts won, there would have been a circus-like atmosphere all week in Denver in anticipation of the reunion between the Broncos quarterback and the team he played with for 14 seasons before their split-up last spring.

Instead, the Broncos get a chance to send Ray Lewis into retirement Saturday.

DENVER BRONCO NOTES

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP)

Welcome to the Denver Broncos 2013 job fair.Offensive coordinator Mike McCoy has interviews for vacant head-coaching jobs set up all weekend.

If a few things fall a certain way, defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio could be next up on a few teams' lists.

Such is life as an assistant coach of a winning team when there are plenty of losing teams out there looking for a turnaround.
