May 30th

2013 HOOP JAM IN SHERIDAN THIS WEEKEND

2013 HOOP JAM - The annual 3 on 3 Hoop Jam basketball tournament starts it's two day run in Sheridan tomorrow.

For several year the tournament was played on Main street and Grinell Plaza downtown, a move to Whitney Plaza took place a few years ago and has worked much better for the organizers and contestants and nearly 150 teams will be competing this year event organizer Amanda Monterstelli.

YOUTH SPORTS CAMPING SEASON BEGINS IN JUNE / FOOTBALL / BASKETBALL / TENNIS / BASEBALL

FOOTBALL - We've heard this week from the Sheridan Bronc football program as they prepare for their team football camp at Black Hills state summer is the time for youth sports camps especially June and July.

The Bronc football team and Gillette will get together in Sheridan next Tuesday evening for Pre scrimmages as both programs get ready for their team camp at Black Hills state.

On Monday the University of Wyoming football program will hold their one day Cowboy camp at Homer Scott stadium.

BIG HORN WILD AND SCENIC VOLUNTEERS / NOTES FROM THE BLACK MOUNTAIN NORDIC CLUB

The Big Horn Wild and Scenic Trail Run is coming up on June 14th and 15th.

The good folks at the Sports Stop put on the race and they have been very good supporters of the ski club. They always make a large donation to our club for our members help with the trail run.

Last year owners, Karen and Mike Powers donated a used Skidoo Skandic to the club for trail grooming. As most of you know in the past, I have solicited your help with the run.

UW TENNIS CAMP COMING TO SHERIDAN

The University of Wyoming tennis camp will be held at the Sheridan high school courts next week.

Since it is so close to starting, if you wish to attend, t call Bronc / Lady Bronc tennis coach Bob Faurot at (672-6323) so they know numbers to expect and can have enough coaches and then pay upon arrival the first day.

The adult clinics on Mon, Tues, and Wed evening 5-6:30. $20/person/night payable at the courts.No sign up necessary for the adult clinics.

BRONC FOOTBALL / COWBOY FOOTBALL CAMP / AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL

BRONC FOOTBALL - The Sheridan Bronc football program continues preparation this week for their only team football camp of the off season which will be at Black Hills state in 10 days.

Bronc's Head coach Don Julian is encouraged by the numbers as 72 players from incoming freshmen through seniors will make the trip.

And Julian says it's been a good experience so far with the younger Bronc players.

TROOPERS BASEBALL / CAMP WEEK COMING UP AND WYOMING ALL-STAR HOOPS ACTION NEXT WEEK

TROOPER BASEBALL - The Sheridan Troopers went 3-2 at the Gillette Memorial day weekend tournament they split their games Sunday beating the Billings Halos 14-2 and dropped a back and forth game with Gillette 8-7 as Gillette held off a late Trooper rally.

The Troopers are now 7-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play next up for the Troopers is a little break to rest up after the long weekend will be a double header at Wheatland next week on Monday before a big conference game back in Gillette a week from today.

UW TRACK SEASON ENDS AT NCAA PRELIMS / SHERIDAN'S TAYLOR GARDNER PARTICIPATES

AUSTIN, Texas - Despite strong efforts by four Wyoming seniors to qualify for the finals, the 2013 track and field season came to a close Saturday at the NCAA West Preliminary in Austin, Texas.

"It was evident our athletes were doing their best and giving their full effort," said Wyoming coach Bryan Berryhill. "We came knowing we'd be facing some of the nation's top athletes in our sport and I think we represented the state and university well.

It was an honor for the 11 Wyoming athletes to be here, and we look to increase that number in the future."

May 26th

TROOPERS GO 3-2 AT GILLETTE MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND TOURNAMENT

The Sheridan Troopers opened the Gillette Memorial day tournament with an 11-6 win over Regina,Saskatchewan.
They beat Rock Springs 10-2.

On Sunday they lost 6-2 against the Gillette Rustlers.

Monday afternoon they blew out the Billings Halos 14-2 and lost Monday night against the Gillette Roughriders 8-7.

The Troopers stand with an overall record of 7-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

The Troops play a double header in Wheatland Sunday and on June 4th they play a conference game in Gillette.

BASEBALL HIGHLIGHTS THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND

TROOPER BASEBALL - The Sheridan Troopers will be in Gillette for three days starting tomorrow for the annual Gillette Memorial day weekend tournament.

They will play five games, they open with a team from Regina, Saskatchewan and Rock Springs tomorrow. Then they play the two teams from Gillette Sunday and finish up with and the Billings Halos Monday.

Troopers Head coach Ben Phillips says it will be good for the players to get on the field and play several games this weekend and also play some teams they normally don't see during the regular season.
