Governor Mead Opposes Closure of Rural Post Offices

In a news release Tuesday Governor Mead indicated his opposition to the closing of rural post offices in Wyoming. The post office at Leiter Wyoming shown here is among the 43 post offices in the state that the U.S.P.S. has listed for possible closure. Governor Mead noted that these closures would add 40-60 miles miles of driving for rural residents to get their mail, but that the U.S.P.S.

A Shower for the 4A Coach of the Year (updated)

The Wyoming Coaches Association has named Sheridan's Don Julian the Class 4A Coach of the Year. His name and that of Cheyenne East's Chad Goff are on the ballot for Wyoming Coach of the Year - the results of that ballot will be counted on December 6th.

Post Season Sheridan High School Football Honors

After the Sheridan Broncs went 11-1 and won the 4A State Football title the post season honors keep rolling in. The players shown here have been named to the All-State and All-Conference list with three also being named as Players of the Year. In addition to these ten, Kevin Bakkehaug, Casey Carlton and Hayden Legerski were also named to the All-Conference list.

It must be true - Our troops are coming home!

This notice posted on the wall of the Big Horn Post Office adds credence to the national news of October 21st when President Obama announced he's pulling nearly 40,000 US troops from Iraq. "Across America our service men and women will be reunited with their families. Today I can say that our troops in Iraq will definitely be home for the holidays," said Obama.

A building of continued friendship and good cheer?

The founder of the Holly Sugar company, that built this factory at 1457 Coffeen Avenue in 1915, liked the name Holly because holly berries were traditional symbols of friendship and good cheer. On October 23, 1915 this Sheridan factory had its grand opening using machinery obtained from the Holly, Colorado factory that had closed that same year.

Ready or not - Here it comes

On Thursday the lights and decorations went up just in time to be decorated by Mother Nature's overnight snow. So "Ready or not - Here it comes" as in: winter and the holiday season both at once. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for our area until noon MST Saturday.

Last up for awards at Wednesday's Fall Athletic Awards Ceremony in the auditorium of Big Horn High School was a stage full of Big Horn Ram Football players and support crew - most wearing shirts that read; "Team Dow."
