Wyoming Prepares for Final Winter of Cloud Seeding

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Preparations are being made for a final winter of seeding clouds over Wyoming mountains as part of the state's unique research project to determine whether the practice actually works.

NE Wyo Mayors Discuss Concerns, Issues With Governor

Last week the mayors from the “big three” municipalities in Northeast Wyoming, Dave Kinski from Sheridan, Tom Murphy from Gillette, and Randy Dyess from Buffalo met with Wyoming Governor Matt Mead to discuss a number of topics with him, all pertaining to the well-being of this corner of the state.

Jo Co Commission Approves Budget At Monday Meeting

The Johnson County Commissioners, at their special Monday meeting, approved their budget for FY 2013-14, using all of their available 12 mills and accepting a total appropriation of just over $40 million.

Briefs From Buffalo City Council

At their last meeting the Buffalo City Council heard an update from City Attorney Ben Kirven on the new animal codes he will compiling. Kirven and City Animal Control Officer (ACO) Karen Kimutis will be working together to compile information for the new city codes.

Illinois Street Rezone Approved

A request from First Federal Savings Bank to rezone two residential properties that they own just south of their bank on Coffeen Avenue was approved on first reading by the Sheridan City Council Monday night. The rezone would change the properties from R-2 residential to a B-1 business district.

Amending City Code

The Sheridan City Council Monday night approved on 2nd reading an ordinance that amends City Code pertaining to signs and billboards.

SCSD 2 Board Approves Budget for FY 2013-2014

The Sheridan County School District 2 Board of Trustees approved the budget for fiscal year 2013 through 2014 at their regularly scheduled meeting Monday night.

Wyoming and the Rainy Day Fund

Wyoming also improved from its fifth place ranking in 2007 with a rate of nearly 13 percent to a third place ranking this year with a rate of 53.13 percent. (Graphic courtesy the Tax Foundation)

According to 2013 statistics just released by the Tax Foundation, Wyoming has a rainy day fund that equals just over 53 percent of its annual general spending. That's behind Alaska, which has grown its rainy day fund to a whopping 211 percent of annual general spending.

UW Trustees to Hold Special Meeting in Sheridan

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting and board retreat July 17-18 at the Holiday Inn and Convention Center in Sheridan. On Wednesday there is a meet and greet at 6 pm with the UW Trustees and new President Bob Sternberg at the Powder Horn Golf Club.
