The 80th Annual Sheridan WYO Rodeo got underway over weekend with two nights of concerts and the boot kick-off, all of which were held at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds. Slack performances are scheduled for today and tomorrow, and the first of four PRCA Rodeo performances will start tomorrow night.

Several property tax assessment appeals were considered by the Sheridan County Commissioners this week. Though there were initially eight petitioners, several dropped their appeals because they worked out agreements with County Assessor Paul Fall prior to Monday's hearing.

Planning Commission Considers Large Acreage Annexation

The City of Sheridan Planning Commission Monday night approved a request from developer Don Roberts to annex 557 acres of land into the City as part of the Cloud Peak Ranch 3 annexation. 17.3 acres of the land will be zoned B-1 Business, while the remaining 539.9 acres will be zoned R-1 Residential.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - An unprecedented special state oil and gas lease auction to handle a rush to drill for oil in eastern Wyoming has netted a near-record $42 million. The Office of State Lands and Investments held the auction Friday. Figures released Monday show bids for the right to drill on state land ranged as high as $3,200 an acre.

Divers Recover Body of Cheyenne Man in Reservoir

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Authorities have recovered the body of a Cheyenne man in a southeast Wyoming reservoir, four days after he went missing after leaving a family camp site. The Laramie County Sheriff's Office says divers found the body of 48-year-old Robert E. Burkett, Jr., Sunday submerged in Granite Reservoir at Curt Gowdy State Park.

That’s the theme of the Sheridan WYO Rodeo and Saturday night began with the time-honored tradition – the annual “Boot Kick-off.” It was all about technique – or lack of it; the kind of sock you wear, or no sock at all; kicking that boot way up high, or shooting it fast and straight. No matter which way they kicked it, it was a great way to kick off this year’s Sheridan WYO Rodeo.

Whether at Kendrick Park or the Sheridan County Fairgrounds, this contestant had fine form at the annual Sheridan WYO Rodeo Boot Kick-Off.

With growth comes change, and nothing could be more illustrative of this fact than the 2010 Sheridan WYO Rodeo. With added dates, both in rodeo performances and concert performances, the beginning of Rodeo Week is no longer a Tuesday night.

Things You Should Know for This Month's 3rd Thursday

It has become an annual tradition for Sheridan residents to set up their lawn chairs along Main Street Thursday night in preparation for all of the festivities that are simply known as Rodeo Friday in Downtown Sheridan. This Thursday night is the next 3rd Thursday Street Festival, which could create a little bit of a problem for those wanting to reserve their spot for Friday morning.

The Shelter offers training, support, and all of the needed food and supplies that are required to foster an animal. Shelter Executive Director Cel Hope says there is one very important thing that foster parents who may have children need to keep in mind.
