Governor Addresses Local Government Funding And Tourism

At a media conference Tuesday, Governor Dave Freudenthal addressed the issue of local government funding, noting that in 2009 when the State made budget cuts, not all local governments were as quick to respond.  Now those cities and counties are struggling with reduced sales tax revenue, upon which they are heavily reliant for their operational funding.

It was a busy day for sentencing in the courtroom Tuesday, as 25-year-old Leo Pinnick plead guilty to Aggravated Assault and Battery in 4th Judicial Court. The charge stems from an incident on July 11th, 2009 during Rodeo weekend in Sheridan, when Pinnick beat 24-year-old Neal Switzer with a baseball bat and a lead pipe.

Shawn Osborne Arraigned in District Court

28-year-old Shawn Osborne was arraigned in 4th Judicial District Court Tuesday. Osborne had initially been scheduled for arraignment on March 10th; however, his attorney, Robert Jones, requested that a competency evaluation be performed on his client. The report from the Wyoming State Hospital stated that Osborne is competent to face the charges brought against him.

Sheridan County commissioners took action on several agenda items Tuesday morning, and kept on the table one item. Two weeks ago, Matt and Leslie Lube requested a rezone on their 9.72 acre property located off of State Highway 335 in Big Horn. Commissioner Terry Cram explains.

Library to Cut Positions

Budget tightening will force some positions to be cut at Fulmer.

The Sheridan County Library System Board of Trustees will be meeting for their regular May meeting on the 19th, and will have an unfortunate task before them. Library director Cathy Butler explains.

Butler has this estimate for how many positions will be cut.

Wyoming Plays the WYO

Gary Small, Phillip Whiteman, Jr. will be featured in this year's Wyoming Plays the WYO May 8th.

For the third year, the WYO Theatre in Sheridan will play host to Wyoming musicians in what has been dubbed “Wyoming Plays the WYO.”

This year, the highlighted artists will be Native American, says guest Gary Small, of Gary Small and the Coyote Brothers.
