The Sheridan County Elections Office mailed out more than 180 absentee ballots for next week’s special Capital Facilities Tax election. 110 of those have already been returned. Elections Director Brenda Miech says it’s too soon to guess whether or not that will be any indication of voter turnout next Tuesday.

The Sheridan County School District 2 Board of Trustees held their last meeting before the start of the school year on Monday night. Sheridan Media News Director Kurt Layher attended the meeting.

Two of the nine Sheridan County School District 2 Trustees have resigned from the board. Stephanie Cole and Lisa Lunbeck both left the board for personal reasons. Now the District is faced with the task of replacing both members in 30 days. Board Chairman Richard Bridger.

School District 2 Board Chairman Richard Bridger said it was one of the hardest choices he has been required to make. He was speaking of the District’s choice of Doug Raney as their 2009 Teacher of the Year.

The Sheridan Housing Action Committee was formed in 2003, and officially opened their office in the summer of 2006 with a single staff member. SHAC Executive Director Marie Lowe explains some of their accomplishments.

The Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce Business and Bites Monthly Luncheon will take place this Wednesday at the Sheridan Holiday Inn. Chamber Director Janelle Maretinsen explains what this month's program will entail.

The monthly luncheon begins 11:30am and is $15 for lunch. If you would like to attend just the program, it's free and begins at noon.

Also known as "e-cigarettes", they are battery-operated tubes that look like cigarettes and contain nicotine and flavors that can be inhaled without producing smoke. The F-D-A wants to regulate them as drug devices, but some makers call them a safe alternative to smoking.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A district court judge says Governor Dave Freudenthal should have released budget cuts proposed by state agencies. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle sued the governor and two state agencies in May for withholding their budget recommendations.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - Unanticipated expenses and a drop in revenue have forced the Crow Tribe lay off 200 people.

Kayle Howe, the tribe's personnel director, says the full-time employees were told of the cuts Friday. Howe says the layoffs do not affect employees who are paid with federal money, and essential services will continue.
