Wyoming needs to take a look at its bank account and figure out how much will be needed in the future. That’s the advice from Equality State Policy Center researcher Sarah Gorin amid the debate over whether Wyoming should raise severance taxes or not.

The Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter is now accepting photos for the 2010 Pet Calender Contest. Entry deadline is September 30th; cost is $15 per photo, and any number of photos may be submitted.

A New Mexico man escaped injury when his pickup truck caught fire on Interstate 90 yesterday. Andrew Wilson from Las Vegas, New Mexico was traveling eastbound just outside of Sheridan on Monday afternoon when his 2005 GMC Sierra pickup started to overheat. When the vehicle started to lose power Wilson pulled over and opened the hood. Flames erupted from the engine compartment.

National Night Out is celebrated every year on the first Tuesday in August. It’s a night where communities can interact with local law enforcement agencies on a social level. The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office has participated in the program for several years. Sheriff’s Deputy Mandy Madry…

The Sheridan City Council is considering a change in building permit requirements that would raise the minimum permit valuation from $1,000 to $3,000. The ordinance passed on second reading. Using 2008 figures, the measure may cost the City around $6,000 in lost revenue from the small building permits.

Sheridan County’s total valuation grew nearly 20% from 2008 to 2009. Property valuations usually lag a year behind the market since numbers from the prior year must be used for the assessments. With that in mind, the Sheridan County Commissioners held a special meeting yesterday to approve the property tax mill levy schedule for this fiscal year.
