Busy Weekend for Firefighters

The hills near Acme are scorched after a fire that was started late Saturday night burned off and on throughout Sunday.
The hills near Acme are scorched after a fire that was started late Saturday night burned off and on throughout Sunday.

A fire that started late Saturday night near Acme due to lightning from thunderstorms appeared to be contained early Sunday afternoon before a strong thunderstorm producing 50 mph winds moved through the area causing the fire to flare up violently.

Two Fires Currently Burning In Sheridan County. !UPDATED!

Sheridan Media has learned that there are two fires currently burning in Sheridan County. The fires are located near Wyarno and Acme. According to Sheridan County Fire Warden Bill Biastoch crews have contained the Acme fire and are on the scene at the Wyarno fire.

Johnson County Fair Opens Today In Buffalo

The 2012 Johnson County Fair begins today at the fairgrounds in Buffalo and will continue through this week, wrapping up next Sunday, August 5th.

Fabric and Fashion judging began on Friday but competitions start today with the Dog Show at 8am.

This month's statistics from the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services report Sheridan's unemployment rate at 6.3 percent.

A two-day workshop in Sheridan called Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, known by the acronym ASIST, is coming to Sheridan Sept. 14 and 15.

Helping build a new trail west of Sheridan

Saturday morning about 100 hearty souls lent their feet for a good cause. They helped break in the first portion of the soon-to-be opened Soldier Ridge Trail off West Fifth Street. As you can see the youthful and not so youthful and their dogs (and one parrot) were among the first trudgers as they negotiated a switchback early on the trek.
