BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A Canadian company is seeking wind power developers to move electricity along a pair of $3 billion transmission lines in Montana and Wyoming, potentially spurring a major increase in renewable power exported from the Rockies to the Southwest.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming's unemployment rate edged up to 6.6% in August, as the state lost 2,200 jobs.

The Wyoming Department of Employment reported Wednesday that August's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was up from 6.5% in July. The month-to-month increase is not considered statistically significant.

The fall weather has been pretty warm so far this year. But in Wyoming there’s no telling how long that will last. Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns will try to take advantage of any nice weather this fall to finish two projects they have underway. Every Friday and Saturday in October will be community build days on the homes.

The Sheridan County Fairgrounds will host representatives from fairgrounds throughout the state this weekend. Starting tonight, the Wyoming Association of Fairs Conference will bring in representatives from almost every one of Wyoming’s 23 counties.

Five local non-profit agencies got a boost Wednesday morning thanks to Sheridan’s Wells Fargo Bank. The Bank solicited applications from several smaller non-profit agencies in the community and gave a total of $4,000 to the five that were chosen. Wells Fargo President Anthony Spiegelberg.

The Sheridan Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees met for their monthly meeting Wednesday. Sheridan Media's Ron Richter was there and has the details.

Typically, the summer months for hospitals are slower than usual. That wasn't the case at Sheridan Memorial Hospital as Chief Financial Officer Ed Johlman points out.

Johlman said that most hospitals see a downturn during the summer due to vacations and people putting off procedures until the fall and winter months.

Earlier this month Sagebrush Elementary School was one of two schools in the state to be recognized as a Blue Ribbon School. The national award is given out annually by the U.S. Department of Education to schools that are academically superior and that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement to high levels.
