CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The Wyoming Attorney General's Office has succeeded in blocking the Johnson County Commission's attempt to terminate a conservation easement on a ranch east of Buffalo.

District Judge Wade Waldrip of Rawlins last week approved a settlement in a lawsuit that Attorney General Bruce Salzburg filed in 2008 against the county commission and ranch owners Fred and Linda Dowd.

Sheridan County Magistrate Carol Doughty is presiding over Sheridan County Circuit Court for the next two weeks, filling in for Judge John Sampson.

Healy Reservoir in Johnson County is a private reservoir located east of Buffalo on Highway 16 and is open for public use through a contract with the landowner and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. There have been several recent incidents, however, that may jeopardize public access to the area.

The Sheridan City Council held a special session Monday, where they approved a resolution to move forward with a grant application through the Wyoming Business Council to provide infrastructure for the proposed High-Tech Business Park in north Sheridan. Forward Sheridan and City staff have been working on the grant application, that must be submitted to the Business Council by March 1st.

The Sheridan County Historical Society will be holding their monthly dinner and program this Thursday night at 6 o'clock at the Sheridan Holiday Inn. The program will take a look at the long history of the Story Fish Hatchery. Mary Ellen McWilliams with the Sheridan County Historical Society explains.

Soon to be the latest in the big screen comic book craze is The Green Lantern, which will be filmed in New Orleans. Athletes and participants alike mustered up their courage this past Saturday as they jumped into the icy waters of Lake DeSmet, all for a good cause.

The 3rd Annual Sheridan Jackalope Jump is a fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics Wyoming. According to event coordinator Kerri Pilcher, the Jackalope Jump was one of seven such fundraisers being held throughout the state.

If attendance was any indication, Saturday night's Dog and Cat Shelter's Family Fun Night should be deemed a huge success, as the Sheridan County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall was packed with 350 to 400 people for the event. Live music, a homemade chili feed, a bucket raffle, a live and silent auction, plus several children's games were highlights of the evening.

Small business owners, entrepreneurs and technology workers are invited to a special presentation. Sheridan Media's Mary Jo Johnson has more.
