Sports Week Wrap Up.

Here is a look at some of the local sports action leading up to the Christmas Break.

In swimming the Buffalo High School Bison Boys came out on top at the Newcastle Invitational with wins in seven different events for a total of 325 points. Buffalo swimmer Nate Holt stood out with wins in three races while fellow team member Matt Scarlett won two of his own. Both of these athletes went on to be a part winning relay teams as well.
The Sheridan High School Broncs put in a great effort at the Riverton Invitational, but came up a little bit short placing 13th.

Tuesday, Star Liquor in Sheridan received a $20,000 bottle of Glennfiddich scotch that was ordered by a customer. General Manager for Star and T and C Liquor, Danyelle Heide.

EPA Releases Progress Report on Fracking Study

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Environmental Protection Agency has released a progress report on its research into potential impacts of natural gas hydraulic fracturing and drilling on drinking water.

UPDATE: As of Dec. 29, the petition has garnered almost 100,000 signatures. Per the terms and conditions of the White House's online petition site, this particular petition has crossed the final signature threshold and will require a response from the Obama Administration. Additionally, it's confirmed that Alex Jones-led InfoWars, based out of Austin, Texas, created the petition.

In the wake of the tragic shooting massacre in Connecticut, the debate over the Second Amendment is raging. On Friday, a Texas man created a petition on the White House's official website to deport CNN's Piers Morgan for "targeting the Second Amendment" in a recent debate with Larry Pratt, Executive Director of Gun Owners of America.

No Mayan Doom in Yellowstone, Volcano Quiet

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The ancient Mayan calendar has ended without global doom including an eruption of the massive volcano beneath Yellowstone National Park.

That's what happened in a 2009 apocalypse movie called "2012," but if anything Yellowstone's geology has been unusually quiet lately.

Multi-State Agreement Protects Wyoming's Tobacco Settlement

Wyoming Attorney General Gregory Phillips announced this week that a multi-state agreement was made with four major tobacco companies that settles a 10-year dispute regarding payments under the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement. Sheridan Media's Ron Richter has more.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - The more the Denver Broncos win, the better the chance they lose - coordinators, that is.

Defensive boss Jack Del Rio and his offensive counterpart, Mike McCoy, figure to be hot commodities for any head coaching vacancies when the season finally winds down. That's simply the price of success.

Coach John Fox says: "You like to see people get opportunities and have those options. I'm sure it will be no different this year."

The Broncos (11-3) have won nine straight heading into a game against Cleveland (5-9) on Sunday.

WASHINGTON AND POKES RIDE 2ND-HALF SURGE TO DOWN GAUCHOS, 56-40

Laramie, Wyo. (Dec. 21, 2012) – The University of Wyoming men’s basketball team matched its best start in team history by winning its 12th-consecutive game with a 56-40 victory over the UC Santa Barbara on Friday in the Double AA.

Senior forward Leonard Washington led all scorers with 17 points while pulling down 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. Fellow senior Luke Martinez chipped in 14 points and four steals for the Pokes.

The Cowboys rode a 32-17 second half to down the Gauchos, tying a season-low 40 points allowed, which also came against UCSB on Nov. 28.
