President Obama Declares Wyoming Major Disaster

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - President Barack Obama has declared a major disaster in Wyoming because of spring and summer flooding. The action means the federal government will help the state pay for costs incurred from damaged roads, highways and other infrastructure.

United Blood Services of Billings will hold a one-day blood drive in Sheridan from 12:30 to 6 pm at the old Woodland Park School in an attempt to make up for higher demand that comes with higher incidents during summer months.

Fire Thursday Leaves Home on Highland with Minor Smoke Damage

A single family home at 1399 Highland Avenue has light smoke damage as a result of a fire on Thursday that was contained to one bedroom of the home by Sheridan Fire-Rescue. According to Fire Marshal Brian Songer there were no injuries.

Bison Pipline Explodes 20 Miles West of Gillette

GILLETTE (AP) - A newly built gas pipeline exploded in a remote area in northeastern Wyoming with enough force to be heard 10 miles away. Nobody was hurt in the blast 20 miles west of Gillette. The explosion happened around 7:30 pm Wednesday and left a 50-foot-long trench in the ground.

City Council Holds Special Meeting on Funding Requests

The Sheridan City Council held a special meeting Thursday to address several requests for affordable housing projects in Sheridan. The City has $81,692 available for affordable housing projects as part of a rollover fund that was established several years ago during better financial times.

Enzi Commends the House on Work on Cut, Cap, and Balance Act

Tuesday the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act, that along with a balanced budget amendment requirement, cuts government spending by $111 billion in fiscal 2012 and cap spending at 22.5% of GDP next year.

Consistently hot days have hit Wyoming, and the Sheridan County Wellness Council will hold a Hyperthermia Awareness event for Safe kids Sheridan County from 10 am to 3 pm this Saturday out in front of Wal-Mart.
