Kayla Woodward and Colby Wollenman Win Simpson Award

Sheridan high school's Kayla Woodward and Big Horn's Colby Wollenman won the 2011 Simpson Award for the state top male and female athlete Saturday night in Casper.

Wollenman becomes the first male athlete from Big Horn high school to win the award.

In 2010 Woodward's brother Austin won the boys Simpson award

This weekend marks 135th Anniversary of Battle of the Little Bighorn

June 25-26, 1876, or 135 years ago, the Battle of the Little Bighorn was fought north of Sheridan near Hardin, Montana.

Banner's Alton Miller Wins Country Showdown Competition

A veteran of the war in Iraq, Alton Miller came into Friday night's local round of the Texaco Country Showdown at the Best Western with heartfelt songs about his service to his country to earn first place in the talent show.

Washout Causes Temporary Road Closure in Yellowstone's Lamar Valley

High waters at the confluence of the Lamar River and Soda Butte Creek undercut a 30-foot section of the eastbound lane of the Northeast Entrance road to Yellowstone National Park, forcing officials to close the road while it is repaired.

TROOPERS DROP THREE IN NEBRASKA

The Sheridan Troopers dropped both ends of a double header in Gering, Nebraska Friday.

Gering took the first game 3-2 and shut the Troops out in the nightcap 3-0.

Saturday the troops conclude the sixe game road trip with two games in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

The Troops dropped a nine inning game in Scottsbluff Saturday by a score of 9-7.

They play a home double header Monday night against the Casper Oilers.

Bikers Against Bruises Holds First Annual Family Fun Event on Grinnell

The Third annual Bikers Against Bruises kicked off last night to give riders a chance to register for the Poker Run early, show off their bikes and have some fun while supporting the fight against violent crimes.

Relay For Life Raises More Than $20,000

The annual Relay for Life began Friday night with a Survivors Walk where more than 75 cancer survivors took one lap around the track amid cheers from supporters. The walk continued all night with help from about 120 donors.

A motion for a new trial hearing was held Friday in 4th Judicial District Court in Sheridan for Shawn Osborne, who's convicted of 1st Degree Murder for the killing of Gerald Bloom.

On The Road to Stardom

Alton Miller, from Banner Wyoming, made the first stop to Stardom Friday evening at the Best Western Sheridan Center. Alton competed against seven other local talent contestants and came out on top in the Texaco Country Showdown - America's Largest Country Music Talent Show for the last 30 years.
